The girls and I made these super yummy Valentine treats for their school parties. They were as easy as cut-out sugar cookies could ever be so click here for the recipe from one of my favorite blogs, BlueCricketDesign.
As far as yesterday and our Valentine's Day, it was just fine but I wouldn't say it was spectacular. In some ways it is unfortunate but I have really lowered my expectations throughout the years. It is just easier that way and also more realistic. As I was shopping for some cards I couldn't bring myself to buy one for the girls or Scott. The cards were at least $3.99 and went up to $6.99. Seriously? I let Scott off the hook with even buying me a card because I didn't think it was good use of our money to spend $12 - 20 on cards that will eventually be thrown away. I ended up buying special cupcakes at a quaint little store in historic Marysville called The Ribbon Box. I hid little Valentine cards in the living room that had 1 word written on it. The girls had to find all the cards, put the words together to find the secret message which led to their surprise...the cupcakes! They were so very, very yummy and perfect because they weren't too much or too little. Doing less is so much more!
Please don't think I have bitter feelings about Scott's lack of some romantic gestures like cards, gifts and flowers. It is completely the opposite. Over the years I realize my expectations were unrealistic because they were based on what I had seen in romantic comedies and such. The very fact my husband loves me the way I am, faults and all, provides for our family so I can stay at home, loves to sit and just chat over a cup of good coffee, is so patient, kind, and forgiving, loves Jesus and desires to be more Godly each and every day, is an incredible daddy to his girls, takes out the trash, and soooo much more makes a "certain" day on the calendar a little silly. He shows me every day (okay, almost every day) that I am his one and only Valentine!
