Roller Coasters

Roller coasters have always been a thrill I have enjoyed.
My dad introduced me to them when I was just old/big enough to ride.
Every summer we made a trip to Cedar Point and I would cling to his strong arms.
I trusted him to keep me safe and not to put me in harms way.
He was my daddy.
Course, as I have gotten older, I am a little more choosey about the coasters I ride.
No more wooden ones for me....except maybe for the classic Blue Streak.
Now the girls cling to either Scott or myself IF they even work up the courage to give it a try.
However, real roller coasters at the amusement park are far from the emotional roller coasters of life.
There isn't much of a thrill to life's coasters.
Just worry....and trying to remember we shouldn't worry.
However, my dad taught me a very important lesson when he would ride the coasters with him.
I can trust the ride if I cling to my Father.
He does not desire to put me in harm's way.

Random Tidbits

~ How does the Lord reconcile denominations and differences in doctrines?  This plagues my mind.  Paul talks about in Philippians that as long as the gospel is being preached, it is good.  I believe in God's sovereign plan and somehow it is all part of his plan...nevertheless, I continually wonder because it is all so confusing and seems like chaos.

~ I have struggled this year with homeschooling.  I have taken on a little more that I need to juggle.  It has sometimes left me feeling completely depleted and at the end of my rope.  Thus, I have struggled with homeschooling thinking that I would love a little more time for a cleaner house, a quiet house, and peace.  Yet, the Lord then reminds me that these years will soon be over and to cherish each moment...a cleaner house is awfully shallow in comparison to investing in the girls' lives and hearts.  I will rejoice in this season, even though it is so busy.

~ This past weekend I got to spend time with some of the girls who were truly my first <3 friends and sisters in Christ that encouraged me to walk deeper in my faith.  It is interesting to see the journeys we are all on at this point in our lives.  I pray that we all put Christ first and never forget the power of the gospel message for our daily lives.

~ Speaking of the gospel, in the last 3 years the gospel message has really penetrated my heart in a way it never has before.  Some of the reasons why I can't fully disclose, but one of the biggest reasons is because I have come to terms with the fact that I am truly a sinner in the need daily for the righteousness that can only be granted through Christ.  I can't pretend or perform my salvation.  While you might be quick to agree and think "Duh!", the gospel has been cheapened by today's church "methods", "programs", and society as a whole.  My pastor reminds us that we need to preach the gospel to ourselves everyday.  WOW!  Have you thought about your need for the gospel beyond the first time you "prayed the sinner's prayer?"  If you would like to think deeper and be more challenged in this area I HIGHLY recommend the books The Gospel-Centered Life & The Gospel Primer for Christians.  EXCELLENT!  If you don't like it, I will give you a 100% money back guarantee because I will definitely pass it on to someone else.

~ Why do I need the gospel every day?  I am inclined to be so self-centered and focused on me.  I am inclined to covet a house that is stylish and put together.  I am inclined to lose all self-control and patience with my girls as they make poor choices, mistakes, or continually do something they know drives me crazy.  I am inclined to be lazy and sleep a little longer than get up and start my day in the Word, peruse Facebook one too many times during the day, obsess over the cute ideas and new recipe ideas on Pinterest which makes me want to rearrange my to-do list to accommodate time for me to be creative, and not effectively plan/prepare for the school day/tutoring session/week.  I am inclined to cuss if I make a really stupid mistake that wastes time and energy, like driving 20 minutes before I realized I missed my exit off of 270.  I am inclined to sin at every chance presented.  Thus, I need my Savior, His Word, and the Holy Spirit to keep me in check every.single.day/hour/minute!

The Power of Notes

Notes!  Don't you love a good note?  It is very common to find notes around our house from one person to another.  Usually they are addressed to Daddy asking him to wake up one of the girls when he gets home for a little middle of the night date.  These dates usually consist of 1 Cosby episode we have DVR'd and maybe a snack.  Every once in a while the girls will even sneak a note into his lunchbox.  He said it always makes his day and many of his buddies seem a little jealous they don't notes in their lunchboxes (even though they are 'tough' guys and would never admit it.  I was just reminded about the power of notes as I was reading what one of my college girly wrote on her blog.  Here is what she shared...

At the begining of the year I would leave little post it notes in her lunch. Nothing big...sometimes just a heart or smiley face or "have a pizza-tastic day" BUT life has gotten busy and I kept forgetting. Then one day I remembered and snuck it in her lunchbox. 2 days in a row. And do you know what I found in her coat pocket...those 2 notes. She was saving them. She treasured them. And everyday for the past 3 weeks she has handed me a post it note and a pen to write her a quick note. She can't wait to see what words of love and encouragement I will give her.

That got me thinking about the love letter someone else has written me...that I often let life get in the way of. God wrote me a love letter and it is preserved for me to open everyday if I don't forget. He's got words of love and encouragement. He didn't forget to write it or send it. How many do I have sitting collecting dust around my house? Too many and too embarrased to say.

Uh yeah!  After all the warm fuzzies can you say CONVICTION!!?  Yep.  Girlies...we love our love notes...just like our little girls or little ones.  Let's treasure the Love Letter that matters most every day.  Let's get into that Love letter and find the truth that will bring us encouragement and strength to get through our tough day.  There is no letter like His.

The Doctrine of Baalam

Wow!  The Lord is so amazingly awesome!  This morning I read in one of my favorite commentaries Thru the Bible with J. Vernon McGee the commentary on Numbers 22-25.  When I first read the story of Balaam and Balak I wasn't totally understanding all of the significance.  See, this is a situation where an "extra" book is good.  Anyways, on to my point.  Balak had summoned Balaam to curse the Israelites in exchange for a good hunk of change.  Balaam said he couldn't go to Balak because the Lord wouldn't release him to do so.  Balak tried to persuade him again and so Balaam asked the Lord and he was allowed to go.  On his way an angel of the Lord blocked his way and Balaam got very upset and beat his donkey who couldn't get past the angel.  This is the story where the donkey speaks to Balaam explaining why he was resisiting his master.  Anyhow, once he arrives to Balak's palace Balaam told Balak 3 times he could not curse the Israelites because they were a protected people.  Balak became upset because he felt the impending doom that could come upon his people.  See, people were well aware of God's power.  The stories of the Red Sea parting and such had spread across the land.  Balak appealed to Balaam for help.  Since Balaam couldn't speak a curse against the Israelites he did something else.  He taught Balak about the Israelites, identifying the weak spots of the people.  Thus when the Moabite women were seducing the men, distracting them, this was. part of Balaam's doctrine.  We see this today in the church.  Balaam's doctrine continues to infiltrate the church.  The church is a "protected people" so Satan's greatest weapon against it is the church itself.  Be aware.

PS:  I don't mean to be so "preachy" or negative.  I just get so concerned.  I know I have no control and can only truly be responsible for my own obedience to the Lord.

Jaded and Desensitized

Scott and I have been having some great discussions about what we are learning through our reading of Numbers and the Psalms.  Today we talked about the Israelites and their constant complaining.  We also talked about how they were so easily deceived and led astray by the Moabite woman who seduced the men and invited them to the sacrifices of their gods.  We are by no means, whatsoever, experts or theologians so please be forewarned these arejust our thoughts.  The Israelites saw firsthand the power and miraculous wonders of God Himself through the parting of the Red Sea, manna provided for food each day, water coming from a rock, let alone being led around the desert by a cloud and pillar of fire and yet they questioned Him, complained, and were so easily distracted.  I can't help but think about how God's heart must be so upset at the current state of His church.  I wonder how much of His church He has cut off, or even people who think they belong to His church but don't.  The apostacy and heretical teachings truly blow my mind.  The "Emergent Church Movement" is like a wild prairie fire that can't hardly be controlled.  Pastors who don't even believe in the Holy Trinity.  The church is jaded and it's own people are becoming desensitized to these false teachings.  A few posts ago I was talking about my personal ban on 'extra books.'  Argh...I don't have a problem with 'extra books'.  I use commentaries to help me understand further these chapters I am reading each day.  But I beg you to vett the authors.  Who are these people?  What do they really believe?  Is it truly Biblical or are they just big names that can draw a great crowd so they must be okay?  Just because they have some "verses" in there, is it "The Truth?"  The devil is out to seek and destroy.  His best ammunition is the church itself.  Pray for discernment and get into the Word.

Complaining

I have started reading through the Bible following our church's 2 year Bible reading plan.  This is something that is expected encouraged to complete as a family.  The first 10 minutes of Sunday School is spent as a whole body discussing what we read.  I admit, I missed reading Genesis, Exodus, and most of Leviticus, along with Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John but I am on schedule now with Numbers & Psalms.  WOW!  It is blowing me away.  I wouldn't be offended if you said, "Well duh!"  The Bible is soooo rich!  Why do we think we need all these "other books"?  Don't we realize all these "other books" make money for people?  I am not going off the deep end, I promise.  I don't think "other books" are evil....but my point is is that you have a treasure chest of truth, grace, mercy, hope, love, and wisdom in one complete book!  WOW!  So where am I headed with this....?

Today I read Numbers 11.  The Israelites have been in the desert and begin to complain about eating manna every day and say they long for the things they ate in Egypt, such as fish, cucumbers, leeks, onions, and melons.  God answers their prayers and provides them quail for an entire month.  However, God is very, very, very displeased with their complaining.  Did He not just bring them out of slavery from Egypt?

Also in this chapter Moses complains.  He says "Why have you brought this trouble on your servant?  What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?  Did I conceive all these people?  Did I give them birth? ... Where can I get meat for all these people?  ... I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.  If this is how you are going to treat me, put me to death right now..." (10-15)  If you are like me you are thinking, "Oh no Moses.  You didn't.  You didn't just say all that did you.  Oh boy, I can't imagine saying that.  Wow!"  However, then it will begin to hit you like it did me, "Wait a minute sister, you complain.  I have even told people God wants to know exactly how you feel.  Talk to Him because He already knows what is in your heart.  Be honest."  And then you realize you are no different than Moses...or actually maybe even a little worse because you didn't talk to God about it but tried to keep it all locked up in your heart allowing bitterness to take root.  Hmmmm....is this making any sense?  God answered Moses' cry for help.  He gave him 70 elders to help him in leading the people.  Later on these 70 elders become known as the Sanhedrin.  Yep, that group of men who convicted Christ to death.  See, God hates our complaining.  Hates it (said in sing-songy voice)!  However sometimes just like we do with our whiny children, He gives us what we want, even though He knows it isn't what is best for us, but not without a cost....sometimes it is a lean soul.

There is sooooo much more richness in this chapter.  I encourage you to read it today.  Maybe I will expound further another day.

Through His Eyes

This has been my prayer since I resigned...that the Lord would help me see my husband through His eyes, deepening my love for him.  I have prayed for the Lord to help me see my girls through His eyes, so I can see their strengths, gifts, and talents.  What surprises me is the fact that the girls' talents and gifts may not be what I think they are or (uh-hum) should be.  I have been really pondering about gifts, talents, and desires.  Recently I have been {creating} which I love to do.  I wish I could have the time, energy, and resources to fine tune some of this creative energy I sense within me.  I try to tell myself it is important for the girls to learn these things so when they are the Queen of their nest they can see how to make it happen.  I still agree with my premise however, tonight as I was watching Kate complete her evaluation for Upwards Basketball and doing an incredible job I was blown away.  I have always thought Kate to be uncordinated...like me.  She was making shots.  She was learning from the coach about different passes.  She came home and was even excited to practice.  Is it possible sports would be something she could be good at doing?  Shame on me for thinking she "can't" do something.  How many times do you hear stories of how someone was an incredible athlete and their parents had never even played sports?  Okay, I have only heard a few but it does happen.  See the truth is I stunk at sports and so I honestly have no interest in working to develop those skills.  However, there is soooo much more to learn from the exposure of sports.  Here is the bottomline....Time is precious.  I wish the Lord could give me a glimpse into their future so I could purposely nurture the gifts and talents necessary to fulfilling His purposes and plans.  Piano lessons because they will be a pastor's wife?  Duh...does every pastor's wife play the piano?  ;)  So where do I go from here?  Realize that I need to protect myself from thinking my girls "can't" do something because they can do/learn anything with hardwork and practice.  Realize that I need to remain focused on keeping the main thing the main thing...teaching them to follow Christ and allowing them to just have fun with different experiences.  I have never watched the TV show where the moms make their toddlers compete in beauty pagents but as absurd as the tiara toddler is, I feel like I can relate.  In all of my "wisdom" (hahaha) I want my girls to be smarter than me, be more "with it" than me, be a better follower of Christ than me, and yada yada yada.  However, the Holy Spirit pricks my soul and reminds me not to worry.  I am just to remain faithful to HIM and HE will work out His purposes for the girls...and for me.

Opinions

One of my best girlies always tells me "Everyone has an opinion and most of them stink."  I need this tattooed on my wall.  I realize tattoo isn't the right word here but I like it.  It sounds good!  It seems that as people get older they feel the freedom to openly share their "wealth of knowledge."  In doing so, they have forgotten some the basic lessons of fact vs. opinion.  While the older generation is more wise. I seek wisdom...not necessarily opinions.  Maybe there is a fine line sometimes, on certain topics.  I don't know.  What do you think?

I wonder what the Lord truly thinks about opinions.  I should do a study.  Off the cuff I would venture to say He would think opinions are too self-centered.  I am guilty of offering my unsolicited opinion.  However, I am becoming much more cognizant of opinions lately, so maybe the Lord is revealing another one of my flaws that needs submitted for refining.  Hmmm?  Don't you ever feel that way?  Something that is beginning to really eat at you, you realize you do it too?  It is partly why you notice it.  How do you balance an opinion with a preference?  Are they the same or different?  Can you have preferences without having opinions that can be hurtful or overbearing to others?  I think so.  Hmmmm?  Just food for thought.

Proverbs 18:2
Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.
Matthew 22:17-18
17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax[a] to Caesar or not?”
18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?

1 Kings 18:21
And Elijah came near to all the people and said, "How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him." And the people did not answer him a word.
Romans 14:1
As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.

Mark 12:14
And they came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone’s opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God.

heed not thy feelings...

My friend posted the following on her blog:

"[God] changes not because thou changest. Nay, He has an especial tenderness of love towards thee for that thou art in the dark and hast no light, and His heart is glad when thou dost arise and say, 'I will go to my Father.' . . . Fold the arms of thy faith, and wait in the quietness until light goes up in thy darkness. Fold the arms of thy Faith I say, but not of thy Action: bethink thee of something that thou oughtest to do, and go to do it, if it be but the sweeping of a room, or the preparing of a meal or a visit to a friend. Heed not thy feelings: Do thy work." -george macdonald

The "Heed not thy feelings" part really, really struck a chord in me, an emotional gal, especially as of late.

Lord, This is my prayer:

  1. Take my life and let it be
    Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
*Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.
  2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
    Swift and beautiful for Thee.
  3. Take my voice and let me sing,
    Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
    Filled with messages from Thee.
  4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
    Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.
  5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
  6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
    Ever, only, all for Thee.

I Forgive You

3 words
11 letters
2 spaces
Powerful

Recently I found myself in a situation where I felt as though I had let a friend down because I had overdone my schedule.  I was profusely apologizing and this is what she said to me, "I forgive you."  Those 3 words, 11 letters, 2 spaces have been running through my mind ever since.  I can't forget them because the words were so simply said, yet so powerful.  It seemed strange to hear these words coming from another human.  I have been thinking about her act of forgiveness and can't imagine with my finite mind the depth of Christ's forgiveness for far, far worse than an "overdone" schedule.  WOW!  Perspective.  He got my attention with those 3 words, 11 letters and 2 spaces spoken by my sweet, sweet friend.

Blessings....count them! All of them!

No matter what situation you find yourself in right now, God has blessed you!  Sometimes dark valleys are necessary.  They remind us of our need to rely on HIM and HIS strength.  We need to fix our eyes on CHRIST, the author and perfector of our faith.  I have friends dealing with infertility.  Have been for about 12 years now.  No answers from the doctors as to why.  It is like a big, open wound that rips their hearts to pieces each month with no reason as to why the wound is there.  Yet they keep their eyes fixed on Christ and they count their blessings.  I have several friends who are dealing with parents who have passed away way before "their time" due to cancer.  Yet they keep their eyes fixed on Christ and they count their blessings.  I have a friend whose mother just moved in with her family as she undergoes radiation for a cancer that is there but the doctor doesn't know where.  Yet she is keeping her eyes fixed on Christ and counting her blessings.  I have a couple of friends who struggle feeling loved and appreciated in their marriage, at times wondering if it is worth the fight.  Yet they keep their eyes fixed on Christ and count the blessings that have come from the marriage and will continue to claim victory for their family.  I have a sister who suffered from a stroke.  Each day continues to be like climbing up a mountain while being on a downward escalator.  Yet she keeps her eyes fixed on Christ and counts her blessings.  The stories and situations could go on and on and on....but the answer and hope remains the same....CHRIST!

A Lesson on Faith

"If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come."—JOB xiv. 14.

"LET me hire you as a nurse for my poor children," said a Butterfly to a quiet Caterpillar, who was strolling along a cabbage-leaf in her odd lumbering way. "See these little eggs," continued the Butterfly; "I don't know how long it will be before they come to life, and I feel very sick and poorly, and if I should die, who will take care of my baby butterflies when I am gone? Will you, kind, mild, green Caterpillar? But you must mind what you give them to eat, Caterpillar!—they cannot, of course, live on your rough food. You must give them early dew, and honey from the flowers; and you must let them fly about only a little way at first; for, of course, one can't expect them to use their wings properly all at once. Dear me! it is a sad pity you cannot fly yourself. But I have no time to look for another nurse now, so you will do your best, I hope. Dear! dear! I cannot think what made me come and lay my eggs on a cabbage-leaf! What a place for young butterflies to be born upon! Still you will be kind, will you not, to the poor little ones? Here, take this gold-dust from my wings as a reward. Oh, how dizzy I am! Caterpillar! you will remember about the food——"

And with these words the Butterfly closed her eyes and died; and the green Caterpillar who had not had the opportunity of even saying Yes or No to the request, was left standing alone by the side of the Butterfly's eggs.

"A pretty nurse she has chosen, indeed, poor lady!" exclaimed she, "and a pretty business I have in hand! Why, her senses must have left her, or she never would have asked a poor crawling creature like me to bring up her dainty little ones! Much they'll mind me, truly, when they feel the gay wings on their backs, and can fly away out of my sight whenever they choose! Ah! how silly some people are, in spite of their painted clothes and the gold-dust on their wings!"

However, the poor Butterfly was dead, and there lay the eggs on the cabbage-leaf; and the green Caterpillar had a kind heart, so she resolved to do her best. But she got no sleep that night, she was so very anxious. She made her back quite ache with walking all night long round her little charges, for fear any harm should happen to them; and in the morning says she to herself—

"Two heads are better than one. I will consult some wise animal upon the matter, and get advice. How should a poor crawling creature like me know what to do without asking my betters?"

But still there was a difficulty—whom should the Caterpillar consult? There was the shaggy Dog who sometimes came into the garden. But he was so rough!—he would most likely whisk all the eggs off the cabbage-leaf with one brush of his tail, if she called him near to talk to her, and then she should never forgive herself. There was the Tom Cat, to be sure, who would sometimes sit at the foot of the apple-tree, basking himself and warming his fur in the sunshine; but he was so selfish and indifferent!—there was no hope of his giving himself the trouble to think about butterflies' eggs.

"I wonder which is the wisest of all the animals I know," sighed the Caterpillar, in great distress; and then she thought, and thought, till at last she thought of the Lark; and she fancied that because he went up so high, and nobody knew where he went to, he must be very clever, and know a great deal; for to go up very high (which she could never do) was the Caterpillar's idea of perfect glory.

Now, in the neighbouring corn-field there lived a Lark, and the Caterpillar sent a message to him, to beg him to come and talk to her; and when he came she told him all her difficulties, and asked him what she was to do, to feed and rear the little creatures so different from herself.

"Perhaps you will be able to inquire and hear something about it next time you go up high," observed the Caterpillar timidly.

The Lark said, "Perhaps he should;" but he did not satisfy her curiosity any further. Soon afterwards, however, he went singing upwards into the bright, blue sky. By degrees his voice died away in the distance, till the green Caterpillar could not hear a sound.

It is nothing to say she could not see him; for, poor thing! she never could see far at any time and had a difficulty in looking upwards at all, even when she reared herself up most carefully, which she did now; but it was of no use, so she dropped upon her legs again, and resumed her walk round the Butterfly's eggs, nibbling a bit of the cabbage-leaf now and then as she moved along.

"What a time the Lark has been gone!" she cried, at last. "I wonder where he is just now! I would give all my legs to know! He must have flown up higher than usual this time, I do think! How I should like to know where it is that he goes to, and what he hears in that curious blue sky! He always sings in going up and coming down, but he never lets any secret out. He is very, very close!"

And the green Caterpillar took another turn round the Butterfly's eggs.

At last the Lark's voice began to be heard again. The Caterpillar almost jumped for joy and it was not long before she saw her friend descend with hushed note to the cabbage bed.

"New, news, glorious news, friend Caterpillar!" sang the Lark; "but the worst of it is, you won't believe me!"

"I believe everything I am told," observed the Caterpillar hastily.

"Well, then, first of all, I will tell you what these little creatures are to eat"—and the Lark nodded his beak towards the eggs. "What do you think it is to be? Guess!"

"Dew, and the honey out of flowers, I am afraid," sighed the Caterpillar.

"No such thing, old lady! Something simpler than that. Something that you can get at quite easily."

"I can get at nothing quite easily but cabbage-leaves," murmured the Caterpillar, in distress.

"Excellent! my good friend," cried the Lark exultingly; "you have found it out. You are to feed them with cabbage-leaves."

"Never!" said the Caterpillar indignantly. "It was their dying mother's last request that I should do no such thing."

"Their dying mother knew nothing about the matter," persisted the Lark; "but why do you ask me, and then disbelieve what I say? You have neither faith nor trust."

"Oh, I believe everything I am told," said the Caterpillar.

"Nay, but you do not," replied the Lark; "you won't believe me even about the food, and yet that is but a beginning of what I have to tell you. Why, Caterpillar, what do you think those little eggs will turn out to be?"

"Butterflies, to be sure," said the Caterpillar.

"Caterpillars!" sang the Lark; "and you'll find it out in time;" and the Lark flew away, for he did not want to stay and contest the point with his friend.

"I thought the Lark had been wise and kind," observed the mild green Caterpillar, once more beginning to walk round the eggs, "but I find that he is foolish and saucy instead. Perhaps he went up too high this time. Ah, it's a pity when people who soar so high are silly and rude nevertheless! Dear! I still wonder whom he sees, and what he does up yonder."

"I would tell you, if you would believe me," sang the Lark, descending once more.

"I believe everything I am told," reiterated the Caterpillar, with as grave a face as if it were a fact.

"Then I'll tell you something else," cried the Lark; "for the best of my news remains behind. You will one day be a Butterfly yourself."

"Wretched bird!" exclaimed the Caterpillar, "you jest with my inferiority—now you are cruel as well as foolish. Go away! I will ask your advice no more."

"I told you you would not believe me," cried the Lark, nettled in his turn.

"I believe everything that I am told," persisted the Caterpillar; "that is"—and she hesitated,—"everything that it is reasonable to believe. But to tell me that butterflies' eggs are caterpillars, and that caterpillars leave off crawling and get wings, and become butterflies!—Lark! you are too wise to believe such nonsense yourself, for you know it is impossible."

"I know no such thing," said the Lark, warmly. "Whether I hover over the corn-fields of earth, or go up into the depths of the sky, I see so many wonderful things, I know no reason why there should not be more. Oh, Caterpillar! it is because you crawl, because you never get beyond your cabbage-leaf, that you call any thing impossible."

"Nonsense!" shouted the Caterpillar. "I know what's possible, and what's not possible, according to my experience and capacity, as well as you do. Look at my long green body and these endless legs, and then talk to me about having wings and a painted feathery coat! Fool!——"

"And fool you! you would-be-wise Caterpillar!" cried the indignant lark. "Fool, to attempt to reason about what you cannot understand! Do you not hear how my song swells with rejoicing as I soar upwards to the mysterious wonder-world above? Oh, Caterpillar! what comes to you from thence, receive, as I do, upon trust."

"That is what you call——"

"Faith," interrupted the Lark.

"How am I to learn Faith?" asked the Caterpillar.

At that moment she felt something at her side. She looked round—eight or ten little green caterpillars were moving about, and had already made a show of a hole in the cabbage-leaf. They had broken from the Butterfly's eggs!

Shame and amazement filled our green friend's heart, but joy soon followed; for, as the first wonder was possible, the second might be so too. "Teach me your lesson, Lark!" she would say; and the Lark sang to her of the wonders of the earth below, and of the heaven above. And the Caterpillar talked all the rest of her life to her relations of the time when she should be a Butterfly.

But none of them believed her. She nevertheless had learnt the Lark's lesson of faith, and when she was going into her chrysalis grave, she said—"I shall be a Butterfly some day!"

But her relations thought her head was wandering, and they said, "Poor thing!"

And when she was a Butterfly, and was going to die again, she said—

"I have known many wonders—I have faith—I can trust even now for what shall come next!"

Come On Ladies....

Post your favorite go-to meal idea!  We all love new ideas...

In the meantime, I have seen some of my blogging friends list things they are thankful for on Tuesdays.  Here is my go to...
1. The assurance of my salvation in Jesus Christ.
2. My hero here on earth, my husband.
3. My two healthy, beautiful girls.
4. My parents who raised me in a home full of love and Christ.
5. My in-laws, who love me and my girls unconditionally.
6. A home that is warm when I need it to be warm and cool when I need it to be cool.
7. Food on the table.
8. Blessings of soul friendships.
9. The Word, which reaches to the depths of my soul.
10. The sunshine!

Randomness...again!

Sometimes these are my favorite posts because they are such random thoughts and I enjoy reflecting and re-reading them in like 6 months from now to see what all the randonmess led to.  : )

I have really been pondering homeschooling, philosophies of education, how politics truly affect education (even homeschooling), the type of person that makes a good teacher in the public system, my own growth as a homeschooling mom, long-term goals regarding homeschooling/education, homeschooling curriculums, and more.  Wow!  Isn't that a lot and even really heavy?  I still get newsletters from the State Support Team regarding new programs implemented by ODE.  These make me wonder why?  The system is so broken.  I realize it so much more than I did while working within the system.  I don't really feel there is any hope.  My heart feels so conflicted because there are so many wonderful and Christian teachers in the system, including so many of my friends.  In regards to homeschooling, I have grown a true love and desire for more of it.  I struggle with whether I should continue with K12 or go out on my own in a more traditional homeschool approach.  It is difficult for me to decide because I truly love, love, love the curriculum we are using with K12. My biggest complaint is how time consuming it is to input all the data.  It becomes tedious and grueling.  I appreciate the accountability yet am frustrated by making sure I cross all my t's and dot my i's.  Since I don't believe in coincidence, I am wondering how God continues to write our story since the homeschool group planning team asked me to join their ranks.  I feel so ill-equipped yet honored as well.  I am really excited to see where this leads me and our family.

I wish I could do something creative every single day.  It rejuvenates me.  I get so much enjoyment from taking on a project and creating something from the raw materials.

My MIL and I have similar tastes yet are very different.  I pretty much have an appreciation for many different decorating styles and designs.  I would love to know how best to pull off the totally eclectic style, merging different styles, items, and such all together in a random yet cohesive manner.  My MIL is completely not interested.  Everything must be matchy-matchy, using "our colors", nothing funky, spunky, or fun.  While it may sound like I am complaining, I want to assure you that I am not.  We are just navigating through our differences and really what I realize is that it just doesn't matter.  We are not living for this life but for the next.  I only have one foot in this world.  There are some that disagree with me and I completely get their point.  However, I want to be sure we are all clear on the non-negotiables.  Scott and I are the parents.  We will follow HIM before anyone else.  We will answer to HIM first.  The rest is just 'stuff'....even the "Grandma's House" sign that is hanging in my kitchen.

Anxiety.  Wow, just last week I thought I was going to never recover from the pit of despair and anxiety that had gripped my entire being.  What is the deal?  Seriously?  I don't want to necessarily go into all the gory details but it was one of the worst pits I had found myself in yet.  Paralyzing really.  Thankfully, through prayers and love from the few that were aware of my crazy state, my ship has come back to center.  I don't share these things for sympathy or even to beat the same drum over and over again (I know I have been dealing and sharing about my anxious ways this winter).  I share these things because I desire to be real and honest and transparent.  I think there are many of us that hide behind a mask of seeming as though we have it all together.  Hahahaha...yeah right!  No one does!  Let's face the facts.  We all deal with it a little differently.  For me, last week was my crash and burn week...emotionally, physically, mentally, and even spiritually.  Thankfully, God always sends the right people who come alongside me and help pick me up out of my pit.  They prayed for me, encouraged me, let me "get it all out" (the kind where you lose all self-control and yet you know they know your heart regardless of how ugly you might be), and loved me.

I love the sugar cones at Aldi!  My recent yummy treat is two small scoops of Edy's Light Fudgy Brownie ice cream on one of these sugar cones.  In fact, I am going to go make me one right now!

Seeing my girls read makes my heart overflow with joy!  Kate recently got hooked onto mysteries.  She loves reading Boxcar Children and just started reading Nancy Drew.  I can't believe it!  Anna needs a little more encouragement but is fully capable.  She loves reading Magic Tree House mysteries.  It also thrills my heart when they beg me to read to them.  Right now we are reading Mary Poppins.

I can't say it enough....I love, love, love my husband!

Response to "Children Are Waiting"

WOW!  I have had several friends respond to my most recent post.  I guess I ended it rather abruptly.  Scott and I have always had tender hearts towards foster care and adoption.  We were actually in training classes to become foster parents when we found out I was pregnant.  Where do we go from here?  I don't know.  As you know, my MIL just moved in.  Hmmmm?  Praying for guidance...

Children Are Waiting

Wow!  I don't even know where to start.  Today while I was at our last Ladies Bible study for this semester, Jennifer shared a bit of her heart and how it breaks for orphans.  She said that just this week a representative from Job & Family Services came knocking on the church office door.  The rep shared with our pastor the great need for foster parents and families even willing to adopt right here in our very county.  It blew my mind and moved me to tears when Jennifer told us there are mothers leaving the hospital without their babies...right here in our very own county.  I couldn't believe it.  The social worker shared that a few years ago it was very difficult for families to get children under 2 years old but times are changing.  The agency has more kiddos in their system than families.  God works in mysterious ways.  Tonight I checked one of my favorite blogs and guess what the blog was about?  You guessed it....adoption.  Please go to this site and check out the moving words for yourself.  This was very interesting.

How to eat an elephant...

...one bite at a time!

Kudos to one of my best girlies for this wonderful tidbit of wisdom!
