Today I was Mrs. Miller as I was a first time ever substitute teacher. My first ever substituting assignment: Preschool, Special Needs Preschool at that. Can I just say I am sure I lost at least a little weight today from all the energy spent in keeping up with 3, 4, and 5 year olds all day long, as well as from giggling about all the funny little things that happened!?! We had a student poop in his pants, even after he had already pooped and stopped up the toilet making it so none of the other students could or would use the toilet. We had a student go home with a fever. We had a student checked over for lice, which happens to be one of my most feared "bugs" I could ever catch from working with children. Of course, this student had no problems whatsoever hugging me, holding my hand, sitting right beside me, etc. (
shiver, shiver, shiver) I had a student announce her "butt itched" since she didn't take a bath last night. Of course she announced this while in the process of itching her behind and not from outside her pants. Strawberry milk spilled, fingers stuck from using too much glue, playdough all over the carpet, autistic children spinning, boogers picked, and lots of noise! Guess what though....I
loved it! We acted out the story of the Three Little Pigs, complete with puppets, houses, and me as the Big, Bad Wolf. We sang songs and read stories. I learned about the students' birthday parties, farm animals, pigs that had been butchered, and more. One little girl announced, "William is my real life boyfriend but he won't let me be his girlfriend." The sweet innocence of these children, some of which I learned today have unfortunately suffered more than I have in my 32 years, are undeniably precious and priceless. I hope I get invited back.
