People with Special Needs

In case you didn't know, I am a Special Education teacher.  I {heart} being a Special Education teacher.  I admit, I don't always know what is the best for every child because they are all so different.  I love to think of them as a special gift from God and routinely ask Him when I am teaching to help me see them through His eyes, full of worth, purpose, and to use me in His plan for their life.  I tell parents while it is important to keep working out the "plan", revising goals, and see a vision for the future it is equally important to remember it isn't so much about what they know academically but who they are on the inside and how we can work to the child's strengths.  I say all of this because today while I was reading "Take Two" by Karen Kingsbury I read the following quote and it touched a deep place within me.

"In some ways - until we find that life-saving faith in Christ - we're all autistic.  Living in our own world, trapped by the smallness of our existence and needing something, anything to pierce the silence and open our eyes to the reality around us."
